Face Lift

Before and After Photos

Are you interested in Face lift?
Face Lift or Rhyidectomy is a procedure that reshapes and redrapes the face. As people age the face changes, skin loosens and the volumes in the face diminish and descend. The apple cheeked appearance of youth becomes hollowed. The skin of the face and neck loosens and becomes jowly. Face lift is actually a combination of procedures that taken together work to move the volumes in the face, adjust the skin tension, changing the effects that have been produced by sunshine and aging.

The facelift procedure can remove excess fat, tighten underlying muscles, and redrape the skin of your face and neck. It is often done in conjunction with brow lift , eyelid surgery and some techniques to change the fine wrinkles in the skin.

Planning your surgery
At your consultation we will listen to your medical history, examine you, and take photographs. If you wear glasses please bring them with you. We will discuss your goals and try to explain what may be accomplished with each procedure. Face lift, deep plane mid face lift, tightening the muscle and facial layers beneath the skin, brow lift and eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty may be suggested. Volume additions to the face and lips can be made with fat or Restylane. At the end of the initial consultation you should have the information you need to make an informed decision about the possibility of plastic surgery.

Preparing for your surgery
We will give you instructions to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. While making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out for a few days, if needed.

Note
Face lift is relatively straightforward, but as with any operation, there are risks associated with surgery and specific complications associated with this procedure. Complications that can occur include hematoma, injury to the nerves that control facial muscles (usually temporary), infection, and reactions to the anesthesia. Poor healing of the skin is most likely to affect smokers. At the time of your consultation these possibilities will be reviewed in detail.

The Surgery
Face lift is usually an outpatient procedure done at our fully accredited operating rooms at the Plastic Surgery Center, at the Asheville Surgery Center on Sweeten Creek Road, or at the Memorial Mission Hospital. It may be done under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. At any of these locations anesthesia will be provided by the anesthesiologists and CRNA's of Asheville Anesthesia.

Recuperation
The operation takes several hours and then requires some quiet time away from your usual schedule as you recuperate. Most patients are more comfortable with ice and some elevation, as in a recliner, for the first 48 hours. Patients do the best if they are away from their usual routine and if they make an effort to move slowly and deliberately for the first 48 hours. Often they elect to spend a day or two at a local motel or residence inn where their only activity is to behave and take care of themselves. Drains are frequently used and drain into two small reservoirs and need to be emptied every few hours. Avoid exercise or activities that raise your blood pressure for a few weeks. Many patients are back to light activities in three or four days, and wearing contacts at two or three weeks. You may return to aerobic exercise in about three weeks. You will be seen in the office in follow up at regular intervals. Please use sun block to protect your scars from tanning. Scars fade from red to pink to white in the months following surgery so they are often nearly invisible. The location of the scars in the hair or inside the ear hides the scar effectively.

We look forward to assisting you.
